A new live music event is joining the programme at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns in Margate next summer.
Oval Allstars takes place on Saturday 22 May 2027, bringing together Taking Care of Vegas and The Dukes of Swing for five hours of live entertainment, classic songs and fundraising for The Oval.
The afternoon will move from the unmistakable music of Elvis Presley to the golden age of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and big-band swing, giving audiences two very different live shows on the same bill.
Tickets go on sale on Friday 9 October 2026, with Adult Donation Tickets starting from £12.
Taking Care of Vegas return after packed Oval appearance
Taking Care of Vegas will already be familiar to many Oval audiences.
The band recently appeared at the Cliftonville Classic Car Show, performing to a packed audience at the bandstand.
They return in May with an extended live set built around the extraordinary catalogue of Elvis Presley.
Rather than a solo Elvis tribute, Taking Care of Vegas deliver the music with a full live-band sound, bringing a distinctly Vegas feel to songs including Blue Suede Shoes, Devil in Disguise, Return to Sender and many more.
Their return forms one half of the new Oval Allstars format.
The Dukes of Swing are back..
The other half of the afternoon belongs to The Dukes of Swing.
Fronted by jazz vocalist Benjamin Lock, the five-piece band specialise in the great American songbook and the music associated with performers including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett.
The band have performed at venues including The Savoy, Claridge’s, Blenheim Palace, Leeds Castle, Hampton Court Palace, The Ivy and Hotel Café Royal.
At The Oval, audiences can expect a full live set of swing, jazz and big-band favourites in the open-air setting of the bandstand.
A new fundraising event for The Oval
Oval Allstars is not simply another date in the summer programme.
The event is being staged specifically to raise funds for The Oval Bandstand & Lawns.
The venue is operated by GRASS Cliftonville CIC, a not-for-profit social enterprise, and money raised through the event will help support the continued maintenance, improvement and programming of the site.
For that reason, tickets are being offered as Adult Donation Tickets rather than at one fixed price.
Donation levels will begin at £12, with additional options of £20, £30, £50, £100 and £250 for people who would like to contribute more.
All adult donation levels provide the same admission to the event.
Children aged 15 and under will be able to attend for £5.
Live music by the sea in Margate
Oval Allstars will run from 12pm until 5pm, with extended performances from both bands across the afternoon.
The Oval Bar and kiosk will be open, with drinks, refreshments and food available on site.
The combination of Elvis, swing, jazz and big-band music makes the event deliberately broad, with the aim of creating an easy-going summer afternoon built around songs people already know.
